Hanging curtains correctly: 3 mistakes you should avoid

Hanging curtains sounds simple – but in practice, it quickly becomes clear: small details make a big difference. As the owner of BTTO®, your specialist for custom-made curtains , I've seen all sorts of problems: crooked rods, fabric panels that are too short, or uneven folds. The good news: With a few tips, the most common mistakes are easily avoided.

Mistake No. 1: Mounting the curtain rod too low

This is a classic mistake. If the rod is mounted directly above the window, the entire room appears smaller.

The solution: Mount the rod 10–15 cm above the window frame . This makes the ceiling appear higher and the window more elegant. A small trick with a big impact.

Mistake No. 2: Choosing curtains that are too short

Nothing makes a room look more unfinished than curtains that don't reach the floor.

The solution: Measure the height precisely and allow for some slack. Ideally, the fabric should lightly touch the floor or even "rise" 1-2 cm. This creates a luxurious, harmonious overall look.

Mistake No. 3: Hanging curtains too tightly

Many people hang the fabric panels too close together. This creates a squashed look and takes away the spaciousness of the window front.

The solution: Leave 10–15 cm of space between the panels and hang the rod slightly wider than the window frame. This will make the fabric drape evenly and make the window appear larger.

Hanging curtains is more than just a minor detail—it has a decisive influence on the overall effect of a room. With the right height, sufficient length, and sufficient spacing, you can create a designer-like effect. Avoid these three mistakes—and your home will instantly gain style and elegance.
