Measuring Outdoor Curtains Correctly – Part 2: Special Cases and the BTTO Measuring Service
Measuring Outdoor Curtains Correctly – Part 2: Special Cases and the BTTO Custom Measurement Service
A Brief Recap: What You Learned in Part 1
In the first part of our guide, we laid the foundation: you now know the three most common measuring errors, understand which tools are truly needed, and can accurately measure a standard rectangle in three clear steps. This is the perfect basis upon which we will now build.
However, as lovely as regular patio covers are, reality often looks different. Slanted walls, low balustrades, or door passages require extended measuring know-how. This second part provides exactly that. And if you find yourself thinking at the end, "I'd rather leave this to a professional," that's perfectly fine – that's what our BTTO Custom Measurement Service is for.

Special Shapes and Installation Situations
Not every outdoor area is a rectangle. Here are the most common special cases:
Slanted Wall or Sloped Ceiling
For a slanted glass wall in a conservatory or an awkward corner, you must precisely measure both the highest and lowest edges. Draw a small sketch and note down the measurements at each bend. BTTO will then custom-make your curtains at the desired angle – whether asymmetrical or trapezoidal.
Balcony with Railing and Balustrade
Here, the curtain should usually end in front of the railing. Measure the height from the planned rail to the desired finishing height (e.g., 5 cm below the top edge of the balustrade). Make sure the width also includes any protruding wall sections or pillars so that the curtain hangs flush.
Outdoor Door Curtain (Entrance Area)
A curtain in front of the front door or conservatory entrance should usually be a little longer to keep out drafts. Measure the door width and allow at least 10-15 cm overlap on each side. For the height, we recommend letting the curtain end 2-3 cm above the floor to avoid soiling.

Frequently Asked Questions about Measuring Outdoor Curtains
Can I shorten the curtain later if it's too long?
This is difficult with acrylic and screen fabrics because the bottom weighting rod would have to be removed. It's better to measure correctly from the start. For minor corrections, we offer an alteration service.
What if my floor is very uneven?
Use the lowest measurement and allow a gap of 1-2 cm. This way, the curtain will glide freely without dragging.
